• When do I find out my locker number and combination?
You will receive your locker combination on the first day of school or earlier if requested. Concerned students can practice in mid-August. Contact the guidance secretary to receive your combination and locker assignment.

• Whom do I go to if my locker will not open? Whom do I see if I lose my locker combination?
If your locker won’t open, go to the main office located in the lobby or see a custodian. All teachers can access your locker number and combination on PowerSchool.

• Where is the Lost and Found?
The Lost & Found boxes are found at the start of the gym corridor.

• Whom do I see if something of mine is stolen?
First, check the Lost and Found just in case. Otherwise, see Mrs. Brochu or the associate principal to report the theft.

• To whom should my child bring an absence note upon return to school?
All absences are to be reported to the main office, which located in the lobby.

• If I am absent, how do I get my assignments? Where can I access homework?
Call Cindy Dailey (ext. 107) by 10 a.m. Some teachers put their weekly assignment lists on the Hazen website.

• What if I become ill during the school day?
Ask permission from your teacher to see the nurse – Linda Romans (ext. 110). If she is not there, go to the main office.

• Whom do I talk to if I am being bullied or harassed?
Report it immediately to the supervising teacher. You should also report it to your guidance counselor and the associate principal.

• Who is the substance abuse counselor? Psychologist?
Michael Clark is the SAP counselor (ext. 118). Keppel is the school psychologist (ext. 349). Students may see Mr. Clark as needed. Students must be referred by a guidance counselor or teacher to see Mr. Keppel.

• How do I find out about bus routes and schedules? Is there a late afternoon bus my child can take after school?
The bus routes are mailed in an enrollment packet during the summer. If you have prior questions or concerns, you may call the bus company directly at 472-5501. Please call our main office for details once the school year begins.

• Are there medical and enrollment forms that I will need to complete before attending Hazen Union?
Yes. You may have already received these in the mail or through your elementary school. If you have any health questions, please contact Linda Romans, our school nurse, at 472-6511, ext. 110.

• How does lunch time work?
Students have 25 minutes for lunch. All middle school students eat lunch at 11 am; high school students eat first or second lunch, depending on their schedules. Lunch is $2.25 for students, and they have a choice of two lunch lines. One line is deli/ala carte; the other is a hot lunch and pizza. Breakfast is served starting at 7:30. The lunch menu can be found online at the Lunch Menu link. Free and Reduced lunch forms will be enclosed in the enrollment packet that you will receive in the summer. If you need one, they are located at the main office or you can call Carol Brochu, the school secretary, at 472-6511 (ext. 100).

• Whom do I see for college recommendations?
Any teacher can write a recommendation. The guidance office has pamphlets about college recommendations for both teachers writing the recommendation and students requesting them. It is advised that students ask teachers at least two weeks in advance and should be prepared to provide the teacher with relevant information.

• Who is the building and grounds supervisor?

Academic:

• How can I (parent or student) access my grades online?
Once you get your username and password from the Guidance secretary, follow this link and login to our online Power School portal.

• What are the academic expectations?
Academic expectations vary by teacher. However, all teachers expect students to come prepared to class, maintain regular and punctual class attendance, behave appropriately, and respect teachers, other students, and equipment. School-wide expectations can be found in the handbook.

• Where can I find a list of courses Hazen offers?
The Hazen Union website has a Program of Studies link.

• Whom do I speak to if I want to do an independent study?
See the Director of Guidance and the sponsoring teacher.

• What additional academic supports are available to struggling students?
Students should see their individual teachers for assistance and suggestions. The Math and Literacy Labs are available for students.

• Are students charged for supplies in shop and family & consumer science?
No, all materials are provided free of charge (within reason).

• Can students make what they want in the shop?
Yes and no. Early projects are assigned by the instructor. As the student gains skills, he/she may be able to design his/her own projects.

• Whom do I see about purchasing/leasing a graphing calculator?
See your math teacher at the beginning of the school year.

• What is plagiarism? What are the consequences? How do I avoid it?
Refer to the student handbook.

• When are science lab days scheduled?
Your assigned science teacher can clarify the lab schedule.

• What is appropriate attire for PE? Can these items be purchased (at a discount) at the school?
Shorts, sweats, or wind pants, t-shirt, and sneakers are appropriate. They cannot be purchased from school.

The special education administration is Monica Cross, and the 504 coordinator is Sally McCarthy.

• What if a child excels in a subject and was accommodated at the elementary school by being allowed to do a higher level of work? How can I assure a smooth transition into the 7th grade subject?
Notify your child’s guidance counselor before school starts (preferably prior to June) to schedule a meeting.
