National Honor Society
National Honor Society (NHS) was formally established in 1921 and has chapters in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Hazen Union School is proud to have hosted a chapter of National Honor Society (NHS) since 1978.
The purpose of Hazen’s NHS chapter is “to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in students of Hazen Union School.” It is an honor and privilege to become a member of National Honor Society at Hazen, and we aim to encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character among Hazen’s NHS members and our school community.
Throughout the year, members of our chapter serve as role models for other students and are leaders in many student organizations. In addition to individual service, NHS members participate in chapter service projects including our annual giving tree, food drive, and Hardwick Area Children’s Project collections and hosting yearly senior citizens’ luncheons.
NHS membership is a meaningful national recognition which many employers, educational programs, and universities favor. National NHS provides its members with scholarship opportunities and resources for college admission and financial aid.
